♥ For the Animals ♥

I haven’t been posting here much lately, but I have still been busy signing petitions on care2, change.org, etc. If you are interested you can browse some of the work I have been doing on other sites and sign petitions on them. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Join National “Boycott Skechers” Weekend

Dear Greyhound Advocates,

The big game is scheduled for February 5, but shoe company Skechers continues to market the “humor” of its upcoming Super Bowl ad featuring dogs racing at Tucson Greyhound Park (TGP). Please join us this Saturday and Sunday for a national weekend of rallies at Skechers stores and/or resellers nationwide.

Greyhound advocates like Theresa Boostrom of Michigan REGAP know how the Tucson dogs suffer. Listen to her speak on their behalf at a Skecher’s rally earlier this week.

TGP’s greyhounds are kept confined in small cages which are barely large enough for them to stand up or turn around. They are fed raw 4-D meat, the meat of downed, diseased, disabled or dead livestock. These conditions were documented in recent inspections by Pima County investigators and by a GREY2K USA undercover video first released in 2010.

Additionally, the state of Arizona documented nearly 1,000 injuries in the last reported years of 2007- 2009. (The state has refused to provide injury records since our initial release of these statistics). The most common injury was a broken leg, and other reported injuries included fractures, sprains, dislocations, muscle tears and strains, lacerations, a cracked skull, broken backs, heat stroke, puncture wounds and paralysis. Instead of promoting such cruelty, companies should be asking for it to end.

The greyhounds need you to take action now! It is not too late to convince Skechers to pull the TGP footage from its ad.

“No Skechers” events will take place this weekend from coast to coast, including:

And be sure to enter our;Boycott Skechers” photo contest by sending in a picture of your event. Winning photos will appear on our facebook page and on our website.

Finally, please remember that as you read these words hundreds and hundreds of gentle greyhounds are suffering at Tucson Greyhound Park. Shut up in their dark, lonely cages, they will never know how many people love them and are working to rescue them now.

Please be a voice for the greyhounds on Saturday, and every day, until dog racing ends nationwide.

(Petition) Stop Selling Fur

Kitson: Please Stop Selling Fur - http://www.change.org/petitions/kitson-please-stop-selling-fur

Millions of animals, including rabbits, raccoons, and foxes, are painfully trapped in steel-jaw leg hold traps each year. Those who don’t freeze or starve are usually beaten to death or suffocated when the trapper arrives hours or days later. Animals held captive on fur farms spend their short lives crowded in wire cages where they suffer from inadequate water, disease, parasites, and stress. The animals are killed by anal electrocution, poisoning, or suffocation. Those who don’t die immediately are skinned alive. People assume that a scrap of fur on the collar is fake and I assure you that many would be appalled to learn that it is real. Over two million cats and dogs are killed in China for their fur. Most of Kitson’s fur was made in China, and could very well come from man’s best friend. Each year, more and more consumers are becoming aware of the horrors against animals done by the fur industry and have been letting companies know that they do not want any part of it.

Intermix: Please Go Fur Free! - http://www.change.org/petitions/intermix-please-go-fur-free

Intermix has every type of slaughtered and skinned animal for sale: Fox fur, rabbit fur, raccoon fur, and even coyote fur. Not only is fur disgustingly cruel, but it is totally unnecessary when there are so many fabulous faux fur options available. As long as shops like Intermix continue to sell fur, the fur industry will thrive, and the senseless killing of fur bearing animal will continue. When the public speaks, the industry listens. If we put pressure on Intermix and express our feelings about their sale of fur, we can make a change. Any shopping at Intermix is supporting this bloody industry, so I encourage everyone to cease shopping at Intermix until they go fur free. Please help the animals by signing our petition and together we can put compassion back in fashion.

Dolls Kill: Please Stop Selling Foxtails - http://www.change.org/petitions/dolls-kill-please-stop-selling-foxtails

One of the most VILE and DISGUSTING “fashion” trends this season are foxtails (fur tails.) That’s right, animals lost their lives for a keychain that you can hang off your purse or clip to your belt.

One of the biggest retailers for foxtails is Dolls Kill. Please voice your concerns to Dolls Kill. Let them know you will NOT be shopping with them until they STOP selling these horrible carcass ridden accessories.

                         RACCOONS SKINNED ALIVE FOR UGGS
Just when you thought that footwear involving the mutilation of millions of sheep couldn’t get any ugglier, several makers of knock-off UGG-style boots have been found to use fur from animals who were beaten and skinned alive. Tests conducted on products labeled as “Australian sheepskin” found that they were actually made of raccoon dog fur, most likely from animals confined to barbaric Chinese fur farms. Raccoon dogs are confined to row upon row of tiny wire cages that are exposed to the elements. Many of the animals go insane from the intensive confinement. Undercover video footage shows raccoon dogs as they are dragged from cages and slammed repeatedly to the ground before being skinned while still conscious. Some survive for as long as 10 minutes, blinking in pain on a pile of other bodies.

The tests also found that some boots contained domestic dog fur, which made it into Australia despite the country’s ban on dog and cat fur.
Since you never can be sure whose fur ends up on your boots, coat, or gloves, the best thing to do is avoid all fur.

Personally I think Black March is not a bad idea, but this is a little more fair to me…?  Sort of like a slightly improved version/a reminder.  I just thought a picture would maybe help catch attention to the idea more than just reblogging text posts.
